The Ruins of Undermountain RU01: The Entry Well and Environments (5e)
The Ruins of Undermountain - The Entry Well and Environments are intended as an introduction to the Undermountain dungeon crawl¸ converted to 5th Edition Dungeons and Dragons¸ which includes a detail backstory about Undermountain¸ Halaster Blackcloak and his apprentices. These rooms are drawn from official D&D releases that include the original Ruins of Undermountain Box Set ¸ plus some additional rooms that were detailed years later¸ while the rest of the rooms were designed for my own campaign. This module ignores the changes done to the dungeon in the 4 th Edition release of Undermountain¸ and is designed to be set Pre-Spellplague (roughly late 1379 DR in Forgotten Realms). This area represents the locales that are commonly explored by most adventurers who enter the dungeon via the Yawning Portal¸ thus they have nearly all been explored before by other adventurers¸ many of which have left their mark on the dungeon crawl over time (but there's still a lot of fun things to encounter!). The DM could provide a crude map of some areas of the area¸ although I wouldn't make it entirely complete¸ nor accurate (the later provides a lot of amusement). The DM is encouraged to roll random encounters from an existing encounter table (or use my own custom Undermountain Random Encounter Tables & Rumors is available on Dungeon Masters Guild). I've also produced two follow ups to this module that explores the areas to the west of the Entry Well called The Lanceboard Room and Librarium Environments ¸ as well as the southern areas¸ The Grim Statue and the Labyrinths Environments ¸ The Northern Reaches and Environments ¸ and the Western Reaches and Environments. All my PDFs on Undermountain can also be purchased together as a bundle ¸ which includes some additional monsters from Trobriand's Scalandicals. It can also be found with all of my PDFs in EVERYTHING ANDREW JAMES WOODYARD BUNDLE ¸ sold at a considerable discount compared to the combined retail price of all the PDFs contained within it. The Map provided is taken from the original map of Undermountain¸ but the room numbers have been altered for the purpose of this module. In addition¸ I've included descriptions of the Yawning Portal for the DM's use¸ and to make descending into Undermountain a memorable experience.
