The Nameless Grimoire
The Nameless Grimoire is a supplement for The Nightmares Underneath (and other old school fantasy role-playing games) that covers spells and spellcasters.
Now revised for the second edition of The Nightmares Underneath¸ this book includes:
- 666 spells and dozens of variations¸ arranged in 33 spell schools (with simple guidelines for specialist caster)¸ as well as a single d1000 table.
- Optional rules to modify spellcasting¸ including an extensive magical miscasting table¸ various effects that can be used to customize spells¸ and rules for using material components (second edition only).
- 6 new character types: Battle Wizard¸ Blood Caster¸ Chaos Mage¸ Shadowsneak¸ Sorcerer¸ and Spellslinger.
- Options for supernatural heritage or sorcerous backgrounds that give your characters mechanical benefits and drawbacks.
- A new random equipment table for wizards and spellcasting characters.
- Some procedures to help you create your own arcane traditions¸ including two new social institutions (second edition only).
- Random spell name tables and random wizard name tables.
The first edition version of The Nameless Grimoire pdf comes bundled with the revised second edition pdf. The first edition includes:
- 4 other character types: Avatar¸ Druid¸ Mystic¸ and Witch. The second edition versions of these will appear in other books.
- Rules for divine patrons and six example patrons. The second edition versions of these rules will appear in their own book¸ where they can be presented in more detail.
- Rules for crafting your own magical items¸ made from magical ingredients. The second edition version of these rules will also appear in a separate book.
- A short bestiary of monsters mentioned in the spells. The second edition versions of these monsters will appear in their own monster manual¸ along with those from The Nightmares Underneath.
The Nameless Grimoire is intended primarily for use with The Nightmares underneath¸ but you can use it with other old school games if you like. Only the first edition reprints the spellcasting rules¸ however¸ and they are not the same as those in the second edition.
The pdf is Digest sized pages¸ 5.5 x 8.5 inches¸ while the print version is US Trade sized¸ 6 x 9 inches.
